Memento Mori

Remember, we will all die.

There are few things which are certain in life, death is one of them. Memento Mori is a latin phrase, which is meant to remind us that we will all die. Precisely because of this fact, we should live our lives to the fullest each day and in the present. We are not guaranteed to wake up after falling asleep, and we are not guaranteed sleep after we wake up.

Memento Vivere

Memento vivere is a Latin phrase that means "remember to live". It is the opposite of memento mori, which means "remember that you must die". Memento vivere was coined in the mid-19th century to temper memento mori with joy and lightheartedness to avoid hopelessness or apathy. It reminds people that becoming obsessed with mortality is unhealthy and speaks to the valuable, intangible aspects of life.
